OUR CLUB

Feniton Ladies Hockey Club was originally formed in 1975, and  became Honiton Hornets  in the early 1980’s, when the ladies started using the grass pitch at Allhallows in Honiton. Back then we fielded at least two teams, with freezing cold changing rooms, sharing the showers with spiders, and teas in the old thatched pavilion.  Whilst their mums were playing hockey, the children had great fun playing on the two play areas, the young children supervised by the older children before they were old enough to take their place on the hockey pitch.  At the time all our matches were friendly, and all took place at the same time every Saturday afternoon, wherever we were playing.

As the game evolved, and astro became the preferred surface of play, the club found itself without a home pitch as permission was given to Honiton Sports Centre to extend onto our pitch.  Honiton Hornets Hockey Club has continued over the years, building on its reputation for being a friendly and inclusive club, where the emphasis is on enjoyment of the game as well as competitive match play.

The club currently play their home games at Ottery St Mary Leisure Centre and travel to various venues across Devon for their away matches in Sedgemoor League 1. They finished 2nd in the 2022/23 season, gaining promotion and hope maintain this in the coming season.
